The Koebrich's Story, in their own words:

When our son KC was born in February 2024, we expected a simple cleft lip surgery. Instead, within hours, we were told something no parent ever wants to hear from a doctor: “If he doesn’t get to the children’s hospital soon, he will die.”

That shocking moment began a journey we never imagined. KC was diagnosed with CHARGE syndrome, affecting his sight, hearing, swallowing, and even his heart. We needed to quickly pack our bags and head to Halifax, far from our home and community in Prince Edward Island. Suddenly, our world was filled with uncertainty, fear, and questions about how we would manage emotionally and financially.

Then we walked through the doors of Ronald McDonald House.

What we found was more than a building. It was peace of mind. It was knowing our family was safe while we focused on doctors and decisions. It was a place that felt like home, where our 2 year old daughter, Kelley, could still laugh and play even during the hardest days.

After long, stressful hours at the hospital, we returned to a warm, welcoming space. There were home-cooked meals waiting for us, fresh cookies in the kitchen, and a community fridge stocked with drinks and snacks.

We didn’t have to worry about buying food or finding a restaurant. That simple comfort meant everything when our minds were consumed with KC’s care.

Each time we return, we’re greeted with a smile, and we know we can focus on what matters most, our family.

When the new Ronald McDonald House opened in April, we were among the first families to visit. It has everything we need to feel at home, and find some sense of normalcy during KC’s treatment. And it is all possible thanks
to the support of donors like you.

For Kelley, Ronald McDonald House was a bright spot in a difficult time. She loves the play areas, the outdoor space with bubbles and toys, and the staff and volunteers who always have time to play. Knowing she is happy and safe gives us the strength to keep going.

The impact of your generosity is lasting. You’re not just giving families a bed. You’re giving them certainty in the most uncertain time of their lives. You’re giving them care, love, and laughter. You’re giving them hope.

We often say donors are the silent angels behind this House. You may never meet the families you help, but please know this: your gift matters. It matters to us. It matters to KC, and to Kelley. It matters to every one of the parents like us who walk through those doors terrified. You make sure they leave feeling supported.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you. And if you can, please continue to give. Your support makes this possible.

Please make your gift today to help families like ours when they need it most. Your support makes such a difference in the lives of hundreds of families like ours.

With gratitude,

Don and Emmie Koebrich
