The Ronald McDonald House Family Room is for all families with patients in the IWK Health Centre
Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms® provide an oasis of calm and support inside the hospital, allowing families to be just steps away from their child receiving medical care. Today there are 16 Ronald McDonald House Family Rooms in pediatric hospitals across Canada.
In January 2007, we opened the first Ronald McDonald House Family Room in Canada. Built on a partnership with the IWK Health Centre, the Halifax Family Room offers a comfortable and supportive space for families to take a break from their daily hospital routine while enjoying some of the familiar comforts of home.
Whether it’s a cup of coffee, a shower, a hot meal or a load of laundry, our Family Room is a place for families to relax, refresh and recharge. At over 2000 sq ft, the Halifax Family Room includes three overnight sleeping rooms for caregivers with a child who has been admitted to the IWK Health Centre, kitchen and laundry facilities, a play area, a wellness room, and a comfortable lounge with TV and Internet access.
The Ronald McDonald House Family Room is staffed by dedicated, compassionate volunteers.
Thanks to the generosity of community donors, we are able to provide several meals a week to our families through our Home for Dinner program. Check our weekly calendar located in our Family Room for upcoming meals.
The Ronald McDonald House Family Room offers weekly activities for families and guests to participate in and enjoy. Our regularly scheduled activities include science experiments, movie night, and arts and crafts. There is always a celebration for special events and holidays.
