Family Stays

We’re located at 5950 South Street in Halifax— just a one minute walk from the IWK Health Centre.

We support families traveling more than 40km for their child’s medical care, regardless of their diagnosis, income, or length of stay. Individuals experiencing high-risk pregnancies are also eligible to stay.

No family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. For those that can, families are asked to contribute $15 per night.

Family is not a visitor, they stick around for the long haul. Ronald McDonald House ensures it stays that way.

Accessibility at the House

Our Ronald McDonald House is built to accommodate all families, and is Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certified Gold to ensure every family has what they need to support their child’s medical journey.

The House features universal design, with an accessible kitchen, living room, sensory room, and play rooms, in addition to barrier-free family suites on each residential floor.

For safety, comfort, and convenience, wayfinding signage throughout the House includes braille, and each room is equipped with visual fire alarms. Stairways feature stair travel devices in the event of an emergency.

Each floor offers accessible washroom facilities, with a fully barrier free, roll-in shower and an adult change table featured on the lower level.
